Neuropathology and Functonal, Cognitive, and Neuropsychiatric symptoms in Misdiagnosed AD Lead Investigator: Kathryn Gauthreaux Institution : NACC E-Mail : kgaut@uw.edu Proposal ID : 276 Proposal Description: Sample: Demented individuals with a clinical diagnosis of primary or contributing possible/probable AD at their last UDS visit. Aim 1: Characterize the neuropathology among individuals with a clinical diagnosis of AD and no/low AD pathology (CERAD neuritic plaque score and Braak stage) at autopsy. Aim 2: Are individuals misdiagnosed with AD more likely to have FTLD and/or CVD pathology compared to individuals correctly diagnosed with AD? Aim 3: Determine whether certain cognitive, behavioral, or functional/motor symptoms are more or less likely to be exhibited among individuals misdiagnosed with AD (at first visit with AD diagnosis and at last visit before death). Aim 4: To examine whether there are different trajectories/patterns of functional/motor, cognitive, and neuropsychiatric symptoms over time in those misdiagnosed with AD versus those accurately diagnosed with AD.
